"Library Extension" Lets you Borrow Books from Your Local Library While You're in Amazon or Goodreads!

Save yourself a few steps, and some money!

That book you want to purchase on Amazon or Goodreads? It might be available to borrow from your local library!

Chrome's "Library Extension" lets you check your local library immediately, while you're in Amazon or Goodreads. [Note: As of this publication date, also available at Barnes and Noble, AR BookFinder, and Google Books! ]

How cool is that?!

I made this mini slide tutorial to demonstrate how the extension works.

You can find out more at libraryextension.com, FAQ, and Free, but you can support.

Enjoy!

MOVE IT! A Fun Chrome Extension to Help Fight the Unhealthy Effects of Sitting

No doubt about it. I am a Computer Sit-Down Slug, as mentioned in Why Sitting is Bad For You (even if you exercise).

I'll be spending more time in the garden this summer, and Move It will help me. It's a fun little Chrome Extension with random brain breaks and exercises that pop up on my screen, at intervals I choose.

Learn about and install Move It here. There's also an iOS mobile app for 99¢ on iTunes here.

This exercise is super easy.
(More of a brain break than an exercise.)

This exercise is the hardest I've encountered so far.

I've timed Move It to pop up at 30-minute intervals.

And I've pinned this to my desk,
to remind me to take a break after I do each exercise ☺.

Move It was created by PE Teacher Jarrod Robinson. Check out his video tour, which he did before the iOS version came out.

Wouldn't Move It be fun for your students in the classroom, to get them active?

Hope you're enjoying your summer.

Garden, here I come!

How about those (33) Chrome extensions! A Google Sheet, a Thinglink, and 4 Observations (my preso at the 2015 Hawaii GAFE Summit)

I'm happy to share my research on Chrome extensions for my presentation at Hawaii's Third Google for Education Summit this weekend!
◊ ◊ ◊ ◊ ◊

Check out the QUICKVIEW Spreadsheet of the 33 Chrome extensions I picked, with the following info:
  • Who developed the extension?
  • Why for school? (color-coded)
  • Ratings as of March 19, 2015
  • Similar 4★+ extensions to try (in progress, please recommend)
Click here to get to the spreadsheet.

Feel free to share the Thinglink collage below. Hover over the color-coded tags to get a description of the extension, mostly copied and pasted from the description in the CWS, but some with personal notes.

Here's the color code key of the Thinglink tags and the spreadsheet:

blue = assistive (10)
black = productivity (11)
yellow = creativity (4)
red = communication, sharing (6)
green = balance, health (2) (okay I know I need more in this category ☺. Suggest some!)

Click here to share Thinglink link (say "Thinglink link" 10x fast, I dare you ☺).

◊ ◊ ◊ ◊ ◊

Observations:

1. I would ❤ for the Chrome Web Store people to consider adding the date the extension was uploaded. This would help extension shoppers interpret the numbers much better, I think.

2. This was the first time I presented without a slide presentation (scary). Instead, I used OneTab. The link bit.ly/extensionshare leads to the share. OneTab is an extension, of course ☺.

3. I was pleasantly surprised to see other Summit presenters using the bit.ly URL shortener. It's definitely my favorite. There's a Chrome extension for it, naturally.

4. I was thrilled to hear two mentions of Chrome extensions on my list of 33, at the Summit. (I'm sure there were others)

Last Pass was Matt North's contribution to the Demo Slam

 And (#SuperEduStar) +Jennie Magiera mentioned KeyRocket in her "Find Extra Hours in Your Week" session.

◊ ◊ ◊ ◊ ◊

I'll be writing at least two more articles about the Summit itself (awesome, as usual!). One will be my impressions, and the other will be about new tools, just as I did last year [ impressions 2014 | tools 2014 ] . Stay tuned!

Five #GR8Finds #ThisWeek 3.6.15 -- Chrome, Google, Cyberbullying, Empathy, & Paying It Forward

[I blog every Friday about my #GR8Finds #ThisWeek. My list is very v-e-r-r-r-y selective
--my own crème de la crème curation. Generally, three to five
#GR8Finds
.]

March 6

Five #Gr8Finds to share #ThisWeek!

1. 50 of the Best Chrome Extensions for Teachers, courtesy of +Joquetta Johnson and +TeachThought.

The content is superb, and the visual display is fantastic! I'll be consulting this resource for my presentation at the GAFE Hawaii Summit in a couple of weeks.

2. Register for Google Education on Air, May 8 and 9 (it's FREE) (h/t +Kasey Bell )

If you can't make it live, everything will be recorded. But be sure to register so you're in the loop.

3. A concerned Dad created this cyberbullying app. What do you think?

(I like it.)

4. A Not Perfect Hat Club.

I absolutely love this idea! #empathy

5. Pay it forward in a seemingly small way.

This man is my hero.

I hope your weekend is restful and regenerating, and that springing forward on Sunday, if it applies, goes smoothly. (We don't have a time change here in Hawaii.)

But we do have snow, even on Maui. Perhaps not as impressive, but snow nonetheless. ☺
